This is the first model with a removable button in cover, made in the style of Navy WAVES daisy mae hats. It was soon replaced by the second model which is all one piece without the buttons since it did not need to have a removable top cover. the daisy mae was replaced altogether in late 1944 by the garrison cap of the same material.
